3 Steps To Clearer Skin ( Get Rid Of Discoloration)

Hyper-pigmenation has always been an issue with my skin.  If I have a breakout, even a small blemish, it can become a scar.  Hyper-pigmentation can be created very quickly and then take what seems like forever to get rid of.  The more melanin in your skin, the darker the pigmentation can appear and be very frustrating to deal with.

I’ve been getting many compliments on my skin and how clear and healthy my face has looked. You know your face looks pretty awesome without make up when people you know say something like ” Wow, your skin looks really good…..and your not wearing any make up?” LOL!

So many women and men have asked me what I use to get my skin to look so healthy and refreshed. I tell them, I use homemade all natural products I make myself.

Below is an all natural DIY  face wash, toner, and moisturizer, that I’ve been using for several months with AMAZING results. My pores are small, my skin is bright and I kicked the discoloration monster right in the butt.

I want to share this DIY recipe that worked for me, with you.

Step 1

Sea Salt/Yogurt Cleanser

  • 2 Teaspoons of Sea Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon of  Plain Greek Yogurt
  • 1 Tablespoon of  Raw Honey

Mix all the ingredients together in a small bowl. Soak a cotton ball into the mixture and apply the mixture to face using upward clockwise circular motions. Remove with warm water. Repeat if necessary until face is clean.

Note: This mixture will not keep, so it should be used immediately.

Step 2

Chamomile Lemon Facial Toner

Chamomile Lemon Facial Toner

Chamomile Lemon Facial Toner

(6oz.)1 Chamomile Tea Bag Brewed and Cooled

(2 tbsp) Lemon Juice

2 tsp Vegetable Glycerin

Mix all the ingredients together and put into a small bottle or container w/lid

Apply the toner all over your face using a cotton ball.

Great for tightening pores and evening out skin tone.

Note: Refrigerate. This toner will last up to 4 weeks.

Step 3

Jojoba/Lemongrass Moisturizer

Jojoba Oil – small amount

1 Drop of Lemongrass Essential Oil

Note: This moisturizer is great for brightening, toning, and is great for acne and normal skin.

Side Notes:

– During the summer months I would suggest substituting the Jojoba Oil with whatever moisturizer you use during the summer months. Or just replace it with your sunblock.

My Skin Type: Combination Skin (type can be dry or normal in some areas and oily in others, such as the T-zone (nose, forehead, and chin). Many people have combination skin, which may benefit from slightly different types of skin care in different areas. Combination skin can produce: Overly dilated pores

Hey Curlfriends,

With so many naturals on YouTube with long hair, and of course, the major companies, milking the natural hair emergence, constantly advertising and showing long hair naturals, it’s no wonder the focus for many naturals is length.

When I first started my natural hair journey, I was all about the length and that was my focus. What products should I use, styles I should wear, and so on. When my hair wasn’t growing as fast as I thought it should, I became frustrated and a couple of times though about just going back to a relaxer and calling it a day. That the natural hair journey wasn’t for me.

Then I realized I was looking at this the wrong way. Yes, I wanted natural long hair but, I should be more concerned and focused on the health of my hair. Believe me, your hair will grow. Just accept what your hair has in store for you as long as you’re taking care of it and keeping it healthy.

Naturally us!! XoXo

Wanting to obtain longer natural hair is a great way to motivate your natural hair journey. It shouldn’t be THE top motivational factor in your natural hair journey. Having healthy hair and understanding how to maintain healthy natural hair, in my opinion, should be the most important.

I want you to think about it like this….

When someone is on the road to losing weight, the healthy way, they change their daily eating habits. They exercise. Everyday is one step at a time. Their focus is being healthy. By them focusing on changing their eating and exercise habits, they will lose weight. We know, not everyones body type or shape is the same, therefore, the results of one person losing weight will not be the results of another person losing weight.

This is the same with your hair.

Finger detangling on 4b/4c hair is a great way to lessen the breakage and shedding, and helps to preserve healthier hair strands.

Your genetics are YOUR genetics. You can’t change that. So embrace what your natural hair journey has in store for you. Focus on the health and condition of your natural tresses. You might be pleasantly surprised at the results.

FYI – I watch so many of my natural “Curlfriends” videos on YouTube to learn what works, what doesn’t work, techniques and overall to support and embrace the change. We CURLY GIRLS are making a statement to the world. That it’s ok to BE NATURAL. That wearing your natural hair out in publicis BEAUTIFUL, and that BEAUTY IS what you make it.

Happy HEALTHY Hair Journey

Homemade Sugar Scrub: Brown Sugar Honey-Lemon Facial Scrub

RoyalTeeZone - Manuka Honey Brown Sugar Facial Scrub

RoyalTeeZone – Manuka Honey Brown Sugar Facial Scrub

I’ve been to numerous high end salons that feature Brown Sugar Scrubs, Mud, and even Chocolate. The treatments are amazing. Leaving your skin feeling soft, moisturized, and healthy. The problem is, they charge you so much money for one of those treatments.   A Brown Sugar Facial can run anywhere from $90- $150. A Chocolate Facial and Body Wrap can go from $100 – $250. When you get into the ingredients of the scrubs and wraps, it’s nothing more than things you can get at your local grocery store.

Speaking of which, have you seen the prices of Brown Sugar Scrubs in stores. A POCKETBOOK OUCH!

So over the past year I’ve been making my very own homemade face and body scrubs. Getting all the same wonderful benefits at a fraction of the cost.

If you’ve ever had a facial scrub before, then you know that they’re simply amazing. After just one application, you can have fresher, healthier looking skin because of the way sugar scrubs exfoliate those dead skin cells.

Manuka Honey Brown Sugar Lemon Facial Scrub

This Brown Sugar Scrub helps to soften the skin, moisturize, refresh, evens out the skin tone, helps with blemishes and creates an overall healthy, younger, fresher looking face.

– Using Manuka honey has many amazing benefits. Such as, natural antioxidants which gives the cells enough minerals, amino acids and vitamins. Helps in fighting acne, bacteria that can build up in the skin, and boosts collagen levels that help in maintaining young and healthy looking skin.

Manuka Honey – 2 Tbsp ( Find this at Whole Foods)

Lemon Juice – 1 Tbsp

Olive Oil – 1 Tbsp

Parsley – 1 Tsp

Brown Sugar – 4 Tbsp

Mixing Directions:

Soften, NOT melt, the honey in the Microwave. ( 10-15 seconds)

– Crush the Brown Sugar to make it as fine as possible.  Your using this scrub on your face, so you want to make sure you’re exfoliating your face, not  up your face.

Mix the honey, lemon juice, olive oil, parsley, and brown sugar together.

Pour the ingredients into an air tight container. This should last you for quite a while.

Applying Direction:

In a light circular motion, apply scrub all over your face, avoiding the eye area.

Rinse with warm water.

After the first use you’ll feel such a difference in your skin.

I’ve been using my homemade Brown Sugar Lemon- Honey Facial Scrub for over 5 months and the condition of my skin has been wonderful.

The moisturizing benefits of this scrub helps tremendously during those cold winter months.

Have you ever  used face scrubs?

Have you ever tried making your own homemade scrubs?

Silky Shea Butter Hair Soufflé

Just an FYI– My hair texture is a blend of 4b/4c.

Love my twist outs

When I first decided to go all natural , I’ve heard so many amazing things about Shea Butter. Pure unrefined shea butter. How it’s amazing for the hair.

At first I didn’t find this to be true for me. Applying Raw Unrefined Shea Butter by itself seemed a bit drying to my hair.

The one major reason I enjoy watching videos, reading articles, blogs, from other naturals, their journey and products, is that I’m always learning something new. What to try, What not to try, ect.

I’ve experimented with Shea butter in my hair and found that, the moisture soft and shiny hair results, that other naturals have experienced using it, didn’t have that same effect on me. I still felt that it left my hair a bit more on the dry side.  I knew that Shea Butter had many great properties and great benefits for the skin and hair. So I was determined to find a way to make it work for me.

So I did some research and over time, I’ve come up with an all natural mixture that works AMAZINGLY in my hair. Less breakage when I manipulate my hair. My hair feels very soft and shiny that last more than a day. I especially add this into my regimen when I’m wearing styles such as twist-outs, braid-outs, using my curl formers, or perm rod curly styles.  My hair in these styles, where the ends are exposed to the elements,  stay soft and shiny for more than a day and for me being very active and working out at the gym as much as I do, it’s a big deal.

I want you to understand that what works for me may not work for you. This has been my experience over the year with my natural hair growing journey. Being active and working out, I needed to find products that suited my hair type and lifestyle.

I find that learning from other naturals with similar hair types such as mine and products they use, and works for them, there could be some element or ingredient within their regimen that could work for me.

So from trials and experimenting, I finally found an all natural shea butter mixture that my hair enjoys. I call it my Silky Shea Butter Soufflé. It works very well. Below are the measurements and ingredients I use.  I hope you find this helpful. If you do try my recipe, please let me know how it worked for you.

Unrefined Shea Butter – 1/2 cup

Aloe Vera Gel – 1 Tbsp

Coconut Oil – 1/2 Cup

Vegetable Glycerin – 1 Tbsp

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil – 4 Drops

Lemon Essential Oil – 3 Drops

Vitamin E Oil – 1 tsp

Homemade Facial: Chocolate Dream

So one night, I was having a piece of dark chocolate and a glass of my Martha’s Vineyard 2010 Malbec Red Wine, which, by the way, is an excellent pairing of tastes. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, I thought about this spa that I went to in the Bahamas several years back and remembered having the chocolate inspired facial and back scrub. It was a very expensive day at the spa but my skin felt so soft and refreshed after my treatments. So, being the homemade natural products user that I am, I decided to do some homework on how to make my own chocolate facial. Less the expensive aspect of it, but all the same amazing properties. I’ve named this facial “Chocolate Dream”

"Chocolate Dream" Ingredients

“Chocolate Dream” Ingredients

2tbsp Dark Chocolate

1 oz oatmeal

1/4 cup of heavy cream

1 tbsp cottage cheese

1tbsp honey

This facial recipe, featuring chocolate, is rich in antioxidants that leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth. The oatmeal is a natural cleanser that helps in unclogging pores. The cottage cheese helps to balance out and even your skin tone, while the heavy cream is a great source of a natural moisturizer for the skin. Great facial for those cold winter days/nights.

Melt the chocolate.

Mix all the ingredients together in small dish. Leave on for 20 minutes, then rinse well with cool water.

Chocolate Dream Mixture

Chocolate Dream Mixture

You can certainly use a soft bristle facial brush to apply  your facial mixture, but, I clearly was anxious to apply one of my favorite facials, so I went the Neanderthal route and just used my hands. RAWR!

Apply my chocolate mixture to my chocolate face. :)

Yes, unfortunately, applying the mixture with your fingers can lead to “the kid in the cake batter” syndrome.

OK....You got me!. :)

OK….You got me!. 🙂

So, if you’re a chocolate lover such as myself, and find yourself ready to eat the whole gosh darn chocolate bar, you might want to adopt this facial recipe into your repertoire. It will not only give you amazing results but it will save your body from those extra calories. Your welcome! 🙂

Yummy! Yummy!

Yummy! Yummy!

Enjoy! I mean the facial! 🙂

P.S. The cold weather always make my lips feel dry. Time to do something about. Think it’s time for my homemade sexy cool lip balms.

3 Steps To Give You A Tight, Refreshed, Younger Looking Face

“I’m SO stressed! My life is so hectic right now! I wish there were more than 24 hours in a day!”  I don’t get enough sleep!”  I hear this all the time, from so many people. Including myself!

Not realizing the daily stresses of life and lack of sleep can definitely take a toll on your body, and, in my opinion, can speed up the aging process. That’s right! It’s not just getting old that can make you look old. Not taking some “Me” time can certainly speed up the wrinkles and sagging skin. YIKES is right!

So, if you’re worried that your starting to look “old” for your age, or if you’re already old and you are not supportive of that sagging skin, then try adding these 3 simple steps using natural everyday ingredients to you beauty regimen, to get that tight refreshed younger looking face. Think of it as a facelift without having to take a trip to the doctor!

Ready for my close-up! Mwah!

I’ve been using these at-home DIY facials treatments for over 2 months. I love it. They work amazingly. I’m big into using natural products on my hair and skin. I love juicing and have been gearing towards a natural lifestyle all together. When you look at some of the ingredients in all so called natural products you purchase from the store, you can learn a thing or two.

Below is a 3 step at-home facial treatments. They each have amazing properties. They will smooth, plump and tighten your face. Just think,  some pay hundreds, if not, thousands of dollars for a facelift ,and the only thing it will cost you is a trip to the grocery store and a little “me” time.

Silky Exfoliator

Step 1: Silky Smooth Exfoliator

1 tbsp brown sugar

1tbsp extra virgin olive oil

~~ The brown sugar will help in smoothing out the skin while the olive oil moisturizes. ~~

In a small mixing bowl, mix together the brown sugar and olive oil until it forms a paste. Apply to your face and lightly massage in a circular counter clockwise motion for a few minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

Step 2: Tightening Facial Toner

1 cup of rose water ( I generally mix 1/2 rosewater and 1/2 water)

1 tsp lemon juice

1 tsp witch hazel

5 drops of almond oil

~~ Both the rosewater and witch hazel serves as an astringent, which helps in shrinking and tightening the pores. The lemon juice aids in fighting wrinkles and brightening the skin, while the almond oil is rich in antioxidents that helps the skin with building new cells.~~

Add all the ingredients into a mixing bowl, preferably with a pour spout, and mix well. Dab the mixture onto your face with a cotton ball and allow the application to dry. (The reason you want to use a mixing bowl with a pour spout is because there will be left over astringent that you can use daily. Pour the remaining homemade astringent into a small bottle and refrigerate.)

Step 3: Cell Boosting Moisturizing Facial Mask

2 tbsp of your favorite moisturizer

1 egg white

2 pinches of turmeric *(See below for Turmeric and it’s amazing properties)*

1 tsp Manuka honey

***Turmeric is a spice used in cooking as well as medicine. It’s imported from India and it has powerful antioxidants. A recent study found that curcumin, the main ingredient in Turmeric, appeared to block an enzyme that promotes the growth of head and neck cancer. ***

~~ The egg white tightens, while the turmeric and honey stimulate the skin and plumps it up, helping to build collagen, which helps create a smoother look.~~

Mix the egg white, turmeric and honey together to make a pasty consistency. Apply to face evenly, avoiding eye area, and leave the mask on for 20 minutes. Rinse well with warm water.
